Sometimes you don’t realize all that happened for months after the fact.
Sometimes it takes looking through photos of a past you to realize.
Sometimes you realize what you did, and know you can never fix it.
Sometimes you know all you can do is never do the same again.
I realize I seem nerdy, but am nowhere near as nerdy as I was a year ago. Last year around this time, I was preparing to tell my friends I wasn’t going back to college because I wanted to play Magic on a competitive level. Yep, I dropped out of college to play a card game. It was a fantastic year, I traveled around the country, met some people who will be my friends for years to come, and had experiences that people my age will never get.
Above it all, I followed my dream. After my year, I realized that yes I could play professionally and do nothing else. I also realized such a path would mean losing my oldest friends and my family, which I had grown very distant in that year. I decided to get a job and leave it as a hobby, nothing more. I’ll go to tournaments near me, but I won’t do trips that require more than eight hours of driving. I have my collection, but I’m shrinking the size while increasing the quality.
